The Opportunity

Every day, your landfill burns methane that has value.

Stop flaring

Your landfill produces enough methane to heat thousands of homes. You collect, manage, and report on it. Then a flare burns it.

Start producing

Utilities and fleets pay for the exact gas you flare today. We make capturing that value simpler, cleaner, and more economical.
What We Do

Redtail turns that flare into a value stream.

Compliance

We do the heavy lifting to ensure your landfill project complies with all federal, state, and local regulations.

Sustainability

Our projects cut landfill gas emissions at the source, shrinking the site’s environmental footprint.

Community Impact

Our projects improve air quality in the communities around the landfill.

Case study

Owensboro RNG

At the West Daviess County Landfill in Kentucky, Redtail is turning flared methane into pipeline-quality renewable natural gas sold under long-term off-take contracts.

Up to 500k

MMBtu of RNG per year — measured at the meter.

Enough energy for 6,500

homes, from one landfill

$0

invested by the landfill owner

This facility allows us to collect resources that would have been wasted in the past. Now we're capturing those resources, cleaning them, and making them available for our community members to heat their homes."

Common questions

Questions landfill owners ask us.

Can’t find your answer? Get in touch.
  • What is a methane collection system, and does my landfill need one?

A methane collection system captures the gas your landfill already produces before it escapes to the atmosphere or gets flared. If your site doesn't have a methane collection system, Redtail develops, builds, manages, and pays for one as part of the project. You don't need existing infrastructure to get started.

  • How does Redtail handle methane mitigation and odor control?

Redtail manages the full collection system according to federal, state, and local compliance standards. This includes the wellfield design and monitoring that keeps methane and odor under control — all at no cost to you. We handle the engineering and operations; you get a cleaner site.

  • How do I sell my landfill gas rights?

There is no separate selling process to navigate. Redtail structures a gas-rights agreement directly with you and handles the rest: assessment, permitting, construction, and operations. It starts with a conversation, not a transaction.

  • What does our landfill actually get paid for?

Your landfill gets paid for the total value its gas creates — not just the raw gas itself. Redtail sells the RNG, and your landfill receives a share of that revenue. We build a partnership designed to maximize that full value for you, and we'll walk through specific revenue-sharing options, payment methodology, and projected economics for your site during the proposal process.

  • What does Redtail invest, and what does our landfill get in return?

We build, own, and operate the entire RNG facility — including the pipeline and other infrastructure needed to get your gas to market — at no upfront cost to you. We also support wellfield operations and maintenance throughout. In return, you share in the revenue that gas generates on an ongoing basis. Rather than becoming another operating expense, your landfill gas becomes a long-term source of revenue for your community.

  • We're a municipal landfill. Is this different for us?

Municipal landfills are where we have the most experience. Our project in Owensboro, Kentucky, is a municipal site, so we know the public-sector timelines, approvals, and reporting that municipal landfills require.

  • How long is the agreement — and what happens at the end?

Agreements typically run 20 years (or longer), matching the productive life of your landfill’s gas, so you get decades of predictable revenue rather than a short-term deal. At the end of the term, options typically include a contract renewal or a clean hand-off — all spelled out before anything is signed.
